The Transportation Enhancement (TE) program was developed to enhance surface transportation activities by developing projects that go above and beyond what transportation departments typically do.
The TE program was made possible by Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA), reauthorized in 1998 under the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), and SAFETEA-LU re-authorization by the current U.S. congressional session.
The estimated annual TE funds available to Arizona are currently about $12 million per year. The ADOT Transportation Enhancement and Scenic Roads Section administers this federally funded program through the FHWA.
The application cycle for the Round 17 Year has closed. To apply for a TE project, the Round 18 Project Application is required, and is expected to be available in the Spring of 2010.
This Web site is intended to guide sponsors through the funding application and project development process. The needed guidance to apply for and develop an enhancement project is available on this web site.
