In 1982 the State of Arizona enacted into law ARS 41-512 through ARS 41-518. This law provides for the establishment of Parkways, Historic, and Scenic Roads. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is the agency responsible to implement these laws.
In 1991, the federal government passed the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, which created the National Scenic Byways Program. The Program provided for the establishment of All-American Roads and National Scenic Byways.
This purpose of this Web site is to help promote the creation and preservation of scenic roads in this state, which includes:
- Assist the applicant in preparing the application for the designation of scenic roads.
- Provide guidance in preparing corridor management plans.
- Assist the applicant in acquiring grant assistance in the planning and implementation of scenic roads.
- Provide the motoring public the current inventory of the scenic roads in this state.
